The CAN Drug Free Community Coalition hosted a Narcan training in Voorhees, NJ in December of 2017. During the training, 25 community members from Camden County participated in Rutgers University’s New Jersey Opioid Overdose Prevention Network Program, which is funded by the NJ Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the New Jersey State Police Regional Operations & Intelligence Center (ROIC), Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and the Rutgers School of Social Work.
During this training, participants learned about current drug trends as they relate to the Opioid Epidemic and the signs of an opioid overdose. Participants were then given instruction on how to deploy Naloxone Nasal Spray and other imperative first aid instructions. Participants were connected with resources that would provide the opportunity to connect persons who had been treated with Naloxone to other long-term treatment options.
At the conclusion of the training, participants were each provided with a free Naloxone kit.
